Besides farming, petty trading or small business activities such as retail represent 20% of the occupation in the rural communities of Ghana. These activities are usually undertaken by women and the youth. The women depend on meager income from these small business activities to support their children and other extended family members. The youth, especially those who are out of school due to lack of support, are forced to undertake these activities to care for their parents and themselves, especially when their mothers become incapacitated. As part of our goals ANUA is seeking support from our angels to enable us to develop the skills of women using micro-finance and small-scale business credit models, and the youth in entrepreneurship and vocational development programs. We plan to engage the youth in innovation programs such as added value to agro farming, manufacturing of farming equipment, including other innovative products to enhance their economic conditions and create a better future for themselves.
